I got the Rival SCVC604HSS 6 Qt. Removable Crock Pot Slow Cooker just a few weeks ago, and already love it! Everything I have made in it so far–pot roast, lettuce wraps, chicken soup, and even an entire chicken–turned out unimaginably delicious and never burnt! My fiancee and I were impressed by how juicy and tender this appliance leaves meat, allowing it to simply fall off the bone. I also love the fact that the lid and pot itself are dishwasher-safe, which makes clean up a breeze. I haven’t had any problems with the temperature gauges being “off” or not working properly.

The only thing I’d like to change about this product is allowing the timer to be set using 15-minute intervals rather than 30-minute intervals, to allow for more precise cooking. But, that’s just a minor complaint and something I can easily work around. Happy cooking!

You put all your ingredients into the slow cooker then turn it to auto and go out for the day. Stews will cook on low in 8-10hours or 4-6hours on high. Ps try using soup instead of stock in a stew for a nice change of flavour.
According to the instructions on my crockpot 'Rival' it is safe to leave on while you are out, that's part of the idea of a slowcooker and I have done this often and gone to work for the day. Just make sure it is placed on a safe heatproof tabletop.

Is is socially acceptable to be a great cook for the family at home but not a chef in a restaurant?

Looking for Great Crock Pot Recipes?

I have two small children so my crock pot is my friend. I am looking for yummy new crock pot recipes. Here is one of my favorites from Paula Deen. What is your favorite?
Pot Roast
1 (3-pound) boneless chuck roast
1 1/2 teaspoons House seasoning, recipe follows
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
3 bay leaves
3 or 4 beef bouillon cubes, crushed
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup Chardonnay

Sprinkle roast on all sides with house seasoning. Using a skillet over high heat, sear roast until brown in oil. Place roast in a slow cooker, and layer onions, bay leaves, crushed bouillon cubes, garlic, and cream of mushroom soup. Add the Chardonnay and cover with enough water to cover all of the ingredients. Cook on the low setting for 8 hours.

House Seasoning:
1 cup salt
1/4 cup black pepper
1/4 cup garlic powder

I am a former chef and the brand is not the issues, I would look more at the size, 3, 5 or 7 quart size, the features and electronic timers or settings.

One with three settings like High, Low and Warm, there are some with probes and I saw one with 3 inter-changable bowls for small to large items. I have one with just 2 settings, but it all depends on the use and size of your family.

What is the best slow cooker?

I have desperately been wanting a slow cooker. My mom is always making meals from her slow cooker. Right now it is just me and my boyfriend so we dont need a huge one. I cant decide between the manual ones or the programmable ones. Also they make some with the meat thermometer attachment, but is that just a gimmick. I've also seen them with the three different sized crocks. Which one do you think is the best?
